cultural industries

1.It refers to the creation, production, and distribution of products of a cultural or artistic nature.

2.They tend to be societies that support the conditions where large companies, and their political allies, make money.

3.This is because the cultural industry companies need to continuously compete with each other to secure audience members due to the fact that companies challenge each other.

4.Risky business, creativity vs commerce, high production costs and low production costs and semi public goods [the need to create scarcity].

5.The cultural industry company is reliant on other cultural industry companies to make audiences aware of the existence of a new product or of the uses and pleasure that they might get from experiencing the product. The aim of cultural industries is to stand  out and represent different ideas which might be controversial which would result in low profit.

6. I think that media should be about both since when a creator wants to make profit they consider the interest of the audience and the profit motivates the creator to create media with artistic expression that can influence and have an impact on a specific age group.

7.Through vertical integration which is when a  media company owns a range of business in the same chain of production or distribution. By keeping their business in the same production there is less risk since they have experience and knowledge on how to make it successful.

8.I think they should be rewarded because many industries play it safe and do not express the right ideologies over fear of losing profits so cultural industries who take that risk of losing profit to benefit the audience  and impact them positively should be rewarded.

9. The audience are not that convinced since it is not that realistic or relatable which makes them lose interest.

10. A large company that owns a range of small companies.

11. I do not agree with this statement because in the western nation there have been a lot of media texts that represent diversity by incorporating characters of different cultures getting involved with each others cultures and the characters do not react to this sharing of culture which normalises it.

12.There is a difference in multiplicity, the number of voices and diversity.I think these are the most significant because a larger number of voices and more people stepping up will create a larger impact on the audience and increase profit and by cultural industries becoming more diverse it attracts a variety of audience because it is more repeatable.

public service and broadcasting

1. More people are viewing content in a variety of different ways and more younger adults are watching non PSB content.

2.Between 2015-2016 average viewing of 16-24 year olds decreased by 10 minutes whereas over 64s increased by 2 minutes.

3. yes because the percentage of regular views who are satisfied with PSB has increased from 73 percent to 78 percent.

4.A total of 2.6 billion.

GOLDSMITHS REPORT

1.The proliferation [rapid increase]of channels has reduced the market share of the public service broadcasters.

2. In return for public service broadcasters meeting the conditions of their licence their content should be guaranteed,re transmission fees should be paid by TV pay platforms to PSB,offcom should supplement its occasional reviews of PSB with a regular audit of PSB and offcom should monitor the independent production sector.

3.The BBC is the most important part of TV ecology but its model of universality is under threat due to the case that it is damaging competitors and their licence fee is vulnerable as a result of new technology.

4.The government should replace their licence fee with a more reasonable price, the government should stop making decisions based on the BBC ,the BBC should be reconstituted as a statutory body ,appointments to the new BBC's new unitary board should be independent from the government.

5.Channel 4 occupies a critical place in the public service ecology because it supports the independent production sector and airing content aimed specifically at diverse audience and therefore has been threatened with privatisation.

6. Channel 4 should significantly increase its provision for older children and young adults and . Channel 4 should not be privatised.

7.Television with the characteristics of public service broadcasting now appears outside the public service system however other cultural institutions are providing video content of public service broadcast.

FINAL SERVICE

1.I think the BBC should retain its position because it is quite diverse and has a variety of different content and many categories and still has British tradition instilled in some of the shows which makes it more accessible to any age group or cultural group.
2. BBC has a role in the 21st century  because it is quite traditional and helps people stay intact with their traditional views however new streaming service which  appeal more to young adults and are cheaper have become more popular and therefore has made the BBC lose some regular TV watchers who do not watch BBC as much anymore since these streaming services circles more around modernity.
3.I think the BBC license fee should be made a lot cheaper because steaming services are a lot cheaper making it more accessible to working class families and therefore adopt a majority audience.
