of ideology derives primarily from ideas and structures
which support, and thus serve the purpose of, an elite
social group which is able to dominate through ideas,

constantly encourages us to want and to consume through advertising and
marketing.

5.I agree with the view that we are controlled by the media because our choice of clothing, music and just general interests always differ based on the latest trends portrayed in the media. We also do rely on media and seek validation based on our life choices since the media normalises certain things and represses others.

collective identity

1.Who are you - Everyone constructs an image to communicate their identity.
I think therefore i am -Identity was constructed due to other aspects of our life such as gender, class and religion.
From citizen to consumer-This consumer boom was based on convincing
people that it was no longer enough simply to
buy what you needed to survive.
The rise of individual-In the 20th century ruse of individualism where people wanted to express their differences and uniqueness.
branding and lifestyle- In 70s, there was a rise in branding where advertises would rather sell the personality rather than product.

2. The three brands im happy to be associated with is apple, Nike and Adidas. Apple is quite classy and professional which matches well with my identity. Nike and Adidas on the other hand give me a sense of individuality with its rare designs that shows the creative side to me.

3. I agree with this statement because media only portrays the clothes and electronics that are the best in style and repetitively advertise the same products to normalise these products to the audience and form into a trend that everyone else follow. For example phones are not particularly the best in quality but are still advertised  due to the popularity of the brand and how stylish the phone looks.

4.Baudrillard believed that society has become so saturated with these simulacra and our lives so saturated with the constructs of society that all meaning was being rendered meaningless by being infinitely mutuable.

5.Social  is not an accurate representation of me because i post quite controversial quotes which i don really agree with but i post it to hop on the trend.

6. I dont agree with social mining because it invades privacy and some people may not want companies having knowledge of the websites they visit.

TASK 2

1. - Audiences use media help to construct their identities.
-mass media offers a more diverse range representations
-Audiences are conscious of the messages media is promoting.
-identity today is seen as more fluid and transformable.
-masculinity is in crisis because women are told by mainstream media that they can be anything they want but there is no indication to men.

TASK 3

1.It is an identity where a group of people collectively share the same values, beliefs and traditions based on the world around them such as the British citizen all having a collective British belief that there should be democracy and freedom in the press. However, the media on the other hand represents a sense of individualism to appease the audience although collective identity is glamorised in society.

2.A traditional British breakfast is sausage, beans and eggs . Britain is also known for its red buses and black taxi cabs . These traditions are constantly exhibited in the media which normalised it and constructed a part of British citizens identity.

3.His toys are of his youth and are targeted at demographic 30 year old males and this target at an older audience instils in a sense of nostalgia due to the incorporation of the past life which was much simpler.
 .
4. Technology has enabled enabled people to actively engage
with the content of the culture around them and then go on to use
it as resources for their own cultural productions

5.there is a shift from a ‘sit-back-and-be-told culture’ to a ‘making and-
doing culture’, and that harnessing creativity in both the
internet and in other everyday creative activities will play a role in
changing how a collective identity is created.

6.Henry Jenkins theory states that  social groups which share similar intellectual resources and patterns of making meaning. In the shaund of dead Facebook group a fan made it to inform all the other fans of the new word she found to share and support the identity created with it.

exam LR

1.WWW-some really interesting ideas for question 1about the product acting as a code to young teenagers. Good overall understanding of media terminology and theory such as question 2 conglomerates strategies.

EBI- closer analysis for the stormy poster and focusing your attention key areas to analyse such as the Union Jack flag or bare chested image.
Also looking at the other side of the argument for question  and how some theories could be discredited such as bandoras social learning theory.

LR- see blog.

2.For question 1, I didn't mention how the gold textured colour scheme offers connotations of wealth.
FOR question 2, i didn't mention the benefit of diversitification which is that it lets companies embrace new technology and revenue.
For question 3, I didnt incorporate an against argument and one factor of this is public service broadcasting creates a market that commercial broadcasters can't compete in.

3. I would say 5 because I skimmed the notes the night before so it was not fully internalised in my brain.

4. I mentioned 2 factors and their benefits and one I could've incorporated is synergy and its benefit being how it allows copies to maximise their profits.

5. I incorporated the BBC and broadcaster and to improve my answer I could've added that public service broadcasting is regulated by ofcom which gives audience a platform to voice their opinions on the content making consumer and audience relationship more interactive and intimate.

6. Media has a lot of benefits to society but with these benefits come major issues and disadvantages such as public service broadcasting creating an unfair marketing world where commercial broadcasters can't fairly compete due to audience not wanting to pay due because of the free content they are getting. The funding model of the bbfc is also really pricey and unrealistic which means that young adults are more likely to avoid paying and therefore have less access to media that may in some ways benefit them.

feminism blog task

1.An example used in the text based on 'male gaze' is the image that Beyonce that creates of herself in the media where she portrays herself as an independent strong woman which challenges the stereotypical norms however on the other hand she objectifies herself in her music videos for the male gaze.

2.Texts like these are sexism in another form since their criticism contradicts their purpose because they criticise women for wearing or dancing in a certain way which attracts the male gaze and that it is all the womens fault.

3.Feminism – A movement aimed at defining,
establishing, and defending women’s rights
and equality to men.
Post-feminism – An ideology in culture and
society that society is somehow past needing
feminism and that the attitudes and arguments
of feminism are no longer needed.
Third wave feminism – Was a movement
that redefined and encouraged women to be
dominant and sexually assertive.

Theory drop

1. The sun has permission to be disruptive and chaotic from a young age whereas the daughter is expected to be agreeable , submissive and pleasant.

2.The phrase ‘non-binary describes an individual that does not identify as a male or female and this links to her theory that explains that younger children are becoming more comfortable using the pronoun "THEY".

3.On twitter, the everyday sexism project documents an image that in movies men usually approach women and sexualise them and focus on their masculinity in the process pf degrading a women femininity. The media airs this stereotype so many times to the point where it is normalised.

Music video analysis

1. This might contribute to butler idea that gender is a performance because Beyonce continually sexualises and degrades herself for a man and is seen as being submissive which to show the audience of the "femininity" that is expected of her in society.
2.Women are represented as objects in this video that are there to be used and sexualised and Beyonces stress without her man shows that women are weak ad need a man to keep going on with their life. this indirectly states that without men present women are worthless.
3. Beyonce reinforces this view the traditional male gaze by continually sexualising herself and incorporating nudity into a video which portrays an image that women need to show off their body and sexualise themselves in media to fulfill their "femininity."

GANGSTA BY WILL JAY

1.In this music video , there is an obvious showcase of how men have changed over the years due to the will jays feminine way of dancing and his lyrics which states that he does not have to conform to the expectations of masculinity to be a man.
2. Gauntlett suggest that the change in media in the 1980s resulted in more opportunities for people to change the construct of gendered identities and ignore the traditional gendered stereotypes.
3.Young men are still under oppression from the media since men who do not act masculine are labelled as "gay" and are expected to dress and behave in a certain way.
