reception theory

In the coco pops advertisement , the creator intention is to create a fun and tasty cereal for children so that they will enjoy having breakfast in the morning since its the most important meal of the day. However there was a lot of controversy within the advert of this product. Many people wanted this advert banned since it violated the terms of advertising junk food to the children. They saw this advert as a facade that increases rate of obesity causing health problems. Many fathers interpreted this advert as sexist due to the 'mothers approved' logo. The creator however was trying to portray a positive product that was maternal friendly.

In the sixty cents advert, many people saw this advert as promoting a gang and criminal lifestyle. Many people assumed he was glorifying criminals due to the background of hand prints that are usually taken when your being admitted to prison. However the creator was trying to send out a positive message of being productive and making a better lifestyle for yourself since you may not ' have tomorrow.'The creator purposely uses low key lighting to create dark and ominous effect to emphasise the danger behind a criminal lifestyle which he is hoping to derive the target audience from however the majority thought he was indicating that criminal lifestyle should become the new 'norm.'
