industries ownership and control.

1.Name of media conglomerate- The Walt Disney app.
conglomerate ownership - film, studios, Marvel, Pixar, 20th century fox, blue sky studios ,Disney media park , ESPN, National geography
Vertical integration-marvel and pixar
horizontal integration-ESPN , national and geographic partner.
Synergy- star wars film franchise
diversification- Disney parks and pvr technology.

2.Media conglomerates should be banned by the government due to their dominance and over taking of other small business who have potential to become successful. This overtaking of small business result in low profits since the small business have to give a percentage of the profits to media conglomerates. However, on the other hand media conglomerates benefit small business by funding them with resources that may help them in selling their products. Media conglomerates are usually successful and therefore can advertise the small business products which is beneficial because it can give them more customers and attention which on the whole increases their profits.

MEDIA MAGAZINE READING AND QUESTIONS

1.In the production process the media products desired by the audience are made and also need to take in the interest and preferences of the target audience. In the promotion process the producers have to advertise their media products and research their target audiences to identify methods of advertising that will reach them. In  the distribution process , the producers have to use accurate methods to make sure that the products are easily accessible to the audience.
2.Licence fee , public service, sales of music, fees paid by advertisers, programme sponsorship and income from subscriptions
3.One example of a media model company is Marvel who are well known for being associated with the genre of action and superheros. Although consisting of a lot of violence , it has an emotional aspect to it where there are idealistic views showed throughout their films of the weak needing protection. Marvel sticks to their one genre therefore it is clear what will occur in the film and fulfils the expectation of the audience. Another example of a media model company is Hollywood. Hollywood feared losing their audience to television and therefore opened multiple cinemas and created VHS making Hollywood films more accessible to the audience.Another example of a media model company is Spotify which created an online music service so their audience can download music for free with the burden of tolerating adverts and alternatively could pay for Spotify and can listen to music without adverts.
4.The movie industry has invested enormous sums of money into 3D movies, BBC is reconsidering funding structure due increase on now on demand viewings , some online newspapers require the audience to subscribe to access them and advertisers find it hard to access audiences through traditional media therefore have to use social media mining.
5.Amazon, Facebook, google and yahoo.
6.I do agree with this view because traditional media institutions are losing customers due to the reformation of technology and the advancement of it. Therefore they have to resort to different measures such as social media mining to advertise their products which conflicts with their usual methods of promotion and may not be as good at it due to their inexperience and lack of knowledge of the modern world of technology.
7.Vertical integration is beneficial for companies since expanding in the same branch of media will help the company succeed in their profits since they are experienced and have the resources and knowledge to advertise it. Diversification on the other hand, allows media companies to explore within different categories and gives them access to many other companies consisting of other categories.
8.I think in the future audiences will be submissive to media conglomerates since most audiences do not necessarily like the product but prior to their advertisements their products become a trend and audiences follow the crowd. Some media products manipulate audiences and make them loyal to their products therefore if their product is not up to good standards the audience will still buy it giving the media conglomerates more profit.

audience theory 2

1. I think the media plays a big part in shaping the views and ideas of different people. When the media normalises violence, such as drill songs and advertsises knives violence is being 'glorified' which creates a big impact on the audience.Drug dealers and drill rappers often glance their money and success in that industry on apps such as instagram which creates idealistic views that violence and rebellion is an easy way to be successful and proceed to follow it. The media also pardons a lot of white school shooters and label them as 'mentally disturbed' and don't proceed to punish them for their crimes which encourages other children to do it knowingly that they won't have to face consequences.

2. In this digital age the access to media is really easy making influence a big threat. Many people look up to the Kardashians infatuatedlifestyle and therefore copy their image by getting plastic surgery or changing their syleof clothing to appeal to the 'norms' of society and fit into the ideal image of what a female should look like which is created by influencers and models. Many influencers have partnerships or collabs with companies such as Amber Rose gills who recently did a club with Misspap and has influenced thousands of fans to purchase their clothing collection not because their necessarily adore the clothing but more to do with the fact thats she was advertising it.

3. IN 1999 there was a moral panic that the world would end since a new millennium was starting. People believed it really quickly and went to the extent of preparing for her death. Many claims similar to this have rised again but people dont believe it anymore and have learnt to not believe everything they see on the internet. In 2001, the event of 9\11 created a lot of controversy amongst society as a whole. It led to the uprising of Islamophobia which caused a lot of conflict and lead to racial attacks and slander. This chain of Islamophobia continues until today portraying how some views are not dependent on just the media anymore.

5. I think the certain content on the media should be regulated and restricted based on how influential young teenagers are and how negative content can shape their future. Different age groups should not be exposed to certain content for example older age groups shouldn't be exposed to content that is meant for teenagers because it can create conflict within a parent and child and young teenagers shouldn't be exposed to certain media due to of how weak their capacity to be influenced is.

6.Heavy internet use is becoming more of a problem since its affection how we interact in society as a whole. The media creates a facade by showing what they want to create a certain image of a social group and not show the good side to it.By doing this , they audience will interpret that this specific social group should be feared and act towards them accordingly. This includes bullying in school or isolation which has an affect on those individuals who are hurt due to the portrayal of them in the media. Many people who watch Shane Dawson conspiracy theories also become fearful of many things just based on his claims but because of his videos are set up it is more believable. It's just a alternative method of making profits in the industry although the audience do not realise this factor.

3. The Columbine high school shootings.
4.It was a school shooting and bombing that killed 12 students and 1 teacher.
5.The license for guns and making it easier to get them and the isolation of certain teenagers that make them resort to these measures.
6.Through repetition ideas attitudes and values are normalised and people become desentisied to negative representations.
7.They are quite general and created a certain way so audience can understand it.
8.It makes simplified judgements.
9.Love thy neighbour is controversial because its based on old school socialist thoughts and does not refer to the racial attitudes towards each other in society.
10.the dominant reading
o an acceptance of the intended meaning
• a negotiated reading
o a broad acceptance of the intended meaning but with
some personal modification
• an oppositional reading
o an understanding of the intended meaning but a rejection of it in favour of one created by the individual.

audience theory blog task 1

1.diversion-

1.Just as stated in the hypodermic needle model the violent video games that the university students are playing are "injecting" aggressive behaviour into them.

2.The heading makes it seem as if violent games are trendy and "cool" since it gives children the ability to hack people although these two factors are not interlinked.

Two step flow model

1.The two step flow model suggests that the audience are influenced by opinion leaders in the media. The two step flow model is still relevant since there are many influencers on Instagram and YouTube which is where the different trends and ideologies descend from.

2. MANNY MUA influences his fans to accept and normalise men wearing makeup which has inspired other male youtubers such as James Charles to proceed with wearing makeup and breaking social boundaries.

3. This telegraph feature fits the two step flow model because it influences the audience to follow certain influencers on twitter that fits ideology of the modern era which helps the audience stay up to date with the new trends and ideas to create a more restricted social group.

4.Jamal fits the two step flow model since he is the "influencer" who influences the audience that being a rapper is an easy way to get money and may drive them away from education. He does not include the struggle to become a successful rapper and portrays it as an easy pathway and process which will influences his younger audience who are still in education to drop it.

dependency theory
1. Audiences have become dependent on media . An example is the kardashians who many people look up to for many makeup and clothing trends.
2.Phones have become more developed making it easier to access the media from any location and then the age rates for social media has decreased making it easier for a younger audience to be easily influenced.
3.When i see a post that is hating on someone it makes me feel bad and angry at how they are being treated and affects my mood for the whole day.Overall it has a positive effect on me since it makes me laugh a lot which reflects my mood for the day.

Migrain October assessment

1. WWW-A brilliant first assessment attempt it is clear to see you have a genuine strength in this subject. Please continue to attempt all work/homework to achieve your minimum target grade or even exceed this . Your response to analysing the "ill manors" and "Nike Adverts" was solid.

EBI-Revise genre theory include more subject terminology theories to gain marks.

2. I didn't critically engage the aspects of the narratives.

3.I didn`t back up the theory with an explanation.

4.I could've incorporated the names of the media theorists.

5.My strongest answer was number 1 with a total of 15 marks. I did better on this question due to it being based mainly on free flowing analysis which is my strongest area.

6.My weakest answer is question 3 due to my lack of expanding on the theories I included and explaining it further. I also shouldve incorporated subject terminology theory needed.

7. Genre is not something that can be culturally learned for example, alphabets and numbers. It is rather in constant change and repetition therefore it mediates between audience and media producers. This is supported by Buckingham who claims that 'genre is a dynamic.' Schatz explains the cycle that genre codes go through that makes it repetitive and unable to be culturally learned. Firstly, the genre code is established.Next it is repeated (classical) and then it is mocked by the audience  and finally it is deconstructed so the genre code is experimented with and creates conventions. Genre is important for the audience since Abercrombie states that genre creates a loyal audience that is committed to watching films of a specific genre which is beneficial in an economic sense. The audiences own personal preferences on what genres they watch are portrayed throughout the film which is a significant factor to take note off so the target audience is more vivid.
