feminism blog task

1.An example used in the text based on 'male gaze' is the image that Beyonce that creates of herself in the media where she portrays herself as an independent strong woman which challenges the stereotypical norms however on the other hand she objectifies herself in her music videos for the male gaze.

2.Texts like these are sexism in another form since their criticism contradicts their purpose because they criticise women for wearing or dancing in a certain way which attracts the male gaze and that it is all the womens fault.

3.Feminism – A movement aimed at defining,
establishing, and defending women’s rights
and equality to men.
Post-feminism – An ideology in culture and
society that society is somehow past needing
feminism and that the attitudes and arguments
of feminism are no longer needed.
Third wave feminism – Was a movement
that redefined and encouraged women to be
dominant and sexually assertive.

Theory drop

1. The sun has permission to be disruptive and chaotic from a young age whereas the daughter is expected to be agreeable , submissive and pleasant.

2.The phrase ‘non-binary describes an individual that does not identify as a male or female and this links to her theory that explains that younger children are becoming more comfortable using the pronoun "THEY".

3.On twitter, the everyday sexism project documents an image that in movies men usually approach women and sexualise them and focus on their masculinity in the process pf degrading a women femininity. The media airs this stereotype so many times to the point where it is normalised.

Music video analysis

1. This might contribute to butler idea that gender is a performance because Beyonce continually sexualises and degrades herself for a man and is seen as being submissive which to show the audience of the "femininity" that is expected of her in society.
2.Women are represented as objects in this video that are there to be used and sexualised and Beyonces stress without her man shows that women are weak ad need a man to keep going on with their life. this indirectly states that without men present women are worthless.
3. Beyonce reinforces this view the traditional male gaze by continually sexualising herself and incorporating nudity into a video which portrays an image that women need to show off their body and sexualise themselves in media to fulfill their "femininity."

GANGSTA BY WILL JAY

1.In this music video , there is an obvious showcase of how men have changed over the years due to the will jays feminine way of dancing and his lyrics which states that he does not have to conform to the expectations of masculinity to be a man.
2. Gauntlett suggest that the change in media in the 1980s resulted in more opportunities for people to change the construct of gendered identities and ignore the traditional gendered stereotypes.
3.Young men are still under oppression from the media since men who do not act masculine are labelled as "gay" and are expected to dress and behave in a certain way.
